The Modern Sight-Size Method

2013 Article by Trinka Margua Simon

Artist and author Trinka Margua Simon now brings her mastery of oil painting and classical realism to a new medium and a new location: the digital arts and California.  Long a well-known artist in the Washington D.C. area, Trinka’s work blends the unparalleled compositional and technical skills of the Old Masters with a wholly unique expressiveness.

Trinka frequently exhibited her work at the Foundry Gallery of Washington D.C., and she has been selected for a variety of portrait and mural commissions, including the massive ceiling mural inside Villa Bella Cardarella for Bruce and Lois Forbes and the portrait of Richard Nixon in the United States Navy Memorial.  After obtaining her Masters of Fine Arts Degree at American University, Trinka continued honing her skills in oil painting and composition as a copyist in Washington D.C.’s National Gallery of Art, only ceasing this decades long commitment for her recent six month study in Florence, Italy.  Using lessons perfected during her 18-year tenure as a studio arts instructor at The Smithsonian, Trinka also authored The Art of Composition, a compilation of major theories and technical lessons.
